This is the story of life in Iraq in the early years after World War II. The author takes us on a journey of the port cities from Basra in the south, to the northern towns such as Musul and Erbil, where his father would travel to buy and sell goods.
It is a story of how the Jewish community fared during those early days and the anti-Semitism that was endemic in the Iraqi community, especially when the State of Israel was born. It is a story of danger, mystery, intrigue, and finally freedom, as Efraim and his family leave Iraq to become part of the Jewish people in their land.
